 Preamble
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) Chapter, has officially suspended its strike action, which commenced on December 5, 2024. This decision follows the successful resolution of key issues that have long hindered the smooth functioning of the university. The strike was necessitated by the Taraba State Government's partial implementation of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Memoranda of Action (MoAs) dating back to 2014.
Issues in Dispute and Resolution
Several critical issues were at the heart of the dispute, and significant strides have been made toward addressing them. The key resolutions include:
University Funding
The Taraba State Government has committed to enhancing university funding in compliance with Taraba State Law No. 4 of 2008. This will ensure sustainable financial support for the institution.Earned Academic Allowances (EAA)
The Government has initiated payments toward the Earned Academic Allowances, starting with an initial 10% disbursement of the accumulated sum. Additionally, 5% will be released monthly, beginning in February 2025, until the arrears are fully cleared.Staff Pension and Gratuity
A State-Defined Pension Scheme has been approved to ensure prompt and efficient payment of pensions and gratuities, addressing a long-standing concern for staff members.Backlog of Salaries
A comprehensive template for clearing salary arrears is being finalized and will be implemented by the first week of February 2025.Constitution of Governing Council
Adjustments to the University's Governing Council membership will be made to align with statutory requirements, ensuring effective governance.Minimum Wage Adjustments
The Government has implemented minimum wage adjustments and pledged timely salary payments, reinforcing its commitment to staff welfare.
Strike Action Suspended
In light of these developments and with approval from ASUU National, the ASUU-TSU Chapter has resolved to suspend its strike action with immediate effect. The Union acknowledges the unwavering support from ASUU National, the Zonal leadership, and the TSU Congress, which has been instrumental in the successful resolution of this struggle.

The ASUU-TSU Chapter expresses profound gratitude to His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, for his proactive leadership and personal intervention in resolving the dispute.
