Return to Nigeria and Clear Your Name, Laolu Akande Tells Diezani Alison-Madueke

Former presidential aide Laolu Akande has called on former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to return to Nigeria and respond to corruption allegations still pending against her.

Akande made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, following reports that a London court cleared the former minister in a case brought against her in the United Kingdom.

UK Court Decision Sparks Fresh Debate

Reacting to the development, Akande described the court ruling as significant and welcomed the outcome of the legal proceedings in the United Kingdom.

However, he stressed that the verdict does not automatically resolve allegations that remain under investigation in Nigeria.

According to him, the former minister still has questions to answer regarding corruption-related accusations that have been the subject of investigations by Nigerian authorities for several years.

"Come Home and Face the Allegations"

Akande argued that the best way for Alison-Madueke to clear her reputation completely would be to return to Nigeria and address the allegations directly.

He noted that while the outcome of the UK proceedings may strengthen her position, Nigerians deserve clarity regarding the accusations that have continued to attract public attention.

According to him, facing the legal process in Nigeria would help bring closure to a matter that has remained in the national spotlight for years.

EFCC Cases Remain Unresolved

The former presidential aide pointed out that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues to pursue several cases linked to the former petroleum minister.

He emphasized that the anti-graft agency remains responsible for investigating and prosecuting corruption-related offences under Nigerian law.

As a result, he believes Alison-Madueke should cooperate fully with Nigerian authorities if she wishes to put the controversy behind her.

Diezani's Role in Nigeria's Oil Sector

Diezani Alison-Madueke served as Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum Resources during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan and was one of the most influential figures in the country's oil and gas sector.

Since leaving office, she has faced multiple allegations relating to corruption, financial misconduct, and abuse of office, allegations she has consistently denied.

Several investigations involving assets and financial transactions linked to her have also attracted both local and international attention over the years.

Calls for Transparency and Accountability

Akande's comments have renewed discussions about accountability, transparency, and the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

Political analysts argue that resolving long-standing corruption cases remains important for strengthening public confidence in the justice system and anti-corruption institutions.

As reactions continue to emerge, attention is likely to remain focused on whether Alison-Madueke will respond to the calls for her return and address the allegations before Nigerian authorities.

Public Interest Remains High

The case continues to generate interest among Nigerians due to its connection to the country's oil sector and broader efforts to combat corruption.

Observers say any future developments involving the former minister could have significant implications for ongoing anti-corruption campaigns and public trust in governance.
