The Nigeria Police Force has concluded all security deployments and operational preparations ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The announcement was made as authorities intensified efforts to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process across the state.

Security Personnel Deployed Across Polling Units

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Anthony Placid, security personnel have been strategically deployed across all 2,545 polling units in Ekiti State.

The deployment also covers major roads, border communities, critical infrastructure, entry and exit points, and other locations considered sensitive for election security operations.

The police said the extensive deployment is aimed at maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election.

Multi-Layered Security Strategy Introduced

Providing further details on the security plan, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, disclosed that the Force has adopted a multi-layered security architecture to safeguard the electoral process.

According to him, security personnel and operational assets have been carefully positioned across the state to protect voters, electoral officials, observers, and election materials throughout the exercise.

The strategy is expected to strengthen public confidence and support the conduct of a peaceful election.

IGP Assures Professional Conduct

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, assured residents and stakeholders that all officers assigned to election duties have received comprehensive briefings on their responsibilities and rules of engagement.

He emphasized that officers will perform their duties professionally, impartially, and in accordance with the law.

The police leadership reiterated its commitment to neutrality and the protection of democratic processes during the election period.

Warning Against Electoral Offences

The Nigeria Police Force also warned individuals and groups against engaging in activities capable of disrupting the electoral process.

Authorities stressed that electoral offences, violence, voter intimidation, ballot manipulation, and other unlawful acts would be prosecuted in line with the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.

Citizens were encouraged to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies throughout the election period.

Emergency Response Line Activated

To enhance rapid response capabilities, the Police announced the activation of a dedicated election emergency hotline.

Residents can report security concerns, suspicious activities, or election-related incidents through:

Election Emergency Line: 080062335577

The hotline will remain operational throughout the election period to ensure timely intervention and support from security personnel.

Police Urge Peaceful Participation

The Force encouraged eligible voters to come out and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation.

At the same time, citizens were advised to avoid spreading unverified information, rumors, or misleading content capable of creating panic or undermining public confidence in the electoral process.

Commitment to Credible Elections

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful governorship election in Ekiti State.

With security arrangements now fully in place, attention turns to voters and electoral stakeholders as preparations enter the final stage ahead of Saturday's poll.
