Dangote Refinery Exports ₦757bn Worth of Jet Fuel to Europe
Dangote Petroleum Refinery exported approximately 466,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in June 2026, with the shipment estimated to be worth about ₦757 billion.
The latest figures highlight Nigeria's growing influence in the global refined petroleum market and underscore the increasing impact of the Dangote Refinery on international fuel supply chains.
Nigeria Surpasses United States in European Jet Fuel Supply
According to market data from S&P Global Commodity Insights, Nigeria exported more jet fuel to Europe in June than the United States.
The report revealed that Nigerian jet fuel exports to Europe increased significantly from 232,000 metric tonnes in May to 466,000 metric tonnes in June.
Meanwhile, exports from the United States declined sharply during the same period, falling from 560,000 metric tonnes in May to 399,000 metric tonnes in June.
The development positioned Nigeria as one of Europe's leading aviation fuel suppliers during the month.
Highest Export Volume Since 2024
The June shipment represents the highest volume of jet fuel exported from Nigeria to Europe since the country became a net exporter of aviation fuel in 2024.
Industry analysts attribute the increase largely to the operational capacity of the Dangote Refinery, which has continued to expand production and exports across multiple petroleum products.
The 466,000 metric tonnes exported in June are estimated to equal approximately 582.5 million litres of aviation fuel.
Based on an estimated value of ₦1,300 per litre, the total shipment is valued at roughly ₦757.25 billion.
European Market Faces Oversupply Concerns
The increase in exports comes at a time when the European aviation fuel market is experiencing growing supply pressure.
Market observers noted that jet fuel prices have weakened significantly following earlier spikes triggered by tensions in the Middle East.
Traders cited increased shipments from Nigeria and the United States, combined with the gradual resumption of supply routes through the Suez Canal, as major contributors to the current oversupply situation.
According to industry participants, high refinery output and delayed maintenance schedules have also contributed to the increased availability of jet fuel in global markets.
Jet Fuel Prices Fall Across Europe
Data from energy market assessments showed a substantial decline in European jet fuel prices during the second quarter of 2026.
Northwest Europe jet fuel cargo assessments dropped significantly by the end of June compared to the record highs recorded earlier in the year.
Analysts believe the decline reflects expectations of abundant fuel supply during the summer season, coupled with weaker-than-anticipated growth in aviation demand.
Middle East and India Remain Key Competitors
Despite Nigeria's strong performance, Europe continues to receive substantial jet fuel imports from other regions.
Exports from Saudi Arabia increased significantly in June, while shipments from India also rose compared to previous months.
Industry experts expect additional cargoes from the Middle East and Asia to enter European markets in the coming months as exporters take advantage of favorable trading opportunities.
However, the pace of future exports may depend on geopolitical developments and the stability of key shipping routes.
Dangote Refinery Expands Global Footprint
The Dangote Refinery has rapidly emerged as one of Africa's most important energy infrastructure projects.
Since commencing large-scale refining operations, the facility has increased Nigeria's capacity to meet domestic fuel demand while exporting surplus products to international markets.
The refinery currently produces a range of petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, and other refined products for local consumption and export.
Its growing export volumes have helped position Nigeria as a significant supplier within the global energy sector.
Nigeria's Shift from Importer to Export Hub
Recent industry data indicates that Nigeria is steadily transitioning from a major importer of refined petroleum products to a regional export powerhouse.
Figures from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) show that the country exported billions of litres of refined products in recent months, including petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel.
This transformation has been driven largely by increased refining capacity from the Dangote Refinery and improving domestic production levels.
Outlook for Global Aviation Fuel Markets
Market analysts believe future demand for aviation fuel will be influenced by several factors, including global travel trends, refinery production decisions, and geopolitical developments.
While current conditions point to an oversupplied market, stronger summer travel demand and adjustments in refinery output could help restore balance later in the year.
For Nigeria, continued growth in exports could strengthen foreign exchange earnings, boost industrial development, and reinforce the country's role as a key player in global energy markets.
The latest export figures highlight the increasing international relevance of the Dangote Refinery and Nigeria's emergence as a major exporter of refined petroleum products.
