Amnesty International Condemns Escalating Insecurity, Daylight Abductions In Kaduna

It declared that no part of the neighbourhood is now safe.

Global human rights organisation, the Amnesty International Nigeria, has decried the escalating wave of banditry, killings, and daylight abductions in Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

It declared that no part of the neighbourhood is now safe.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, October 12, 2026, the global rights group lamented that bandits and armed kidnappers now operate across the area at any time of the day with total impunity, forcing terrified residents to abandon their homes and suspend their children's education.

Amnesty International highlighted a horrifying viral video showing a kidnapped family — identified as Ahmad Abubakar Zakka, his wife, and their infant daughter —being held at gunpoint by heavily armed bandits.

The family was violently abducted on October 5, when gunmen invaded Alrahus Estate within the Millennium City community.

In the video, the abductors could be seen pointing AK-47 assault rifles at the heads of the parents and their baby, threatening to execute them.

"Bandits and ‘kidnappers’ have been escalating attacks and abductions in and around Kaduna’s Millennium City neighborhood," the Amnesty International stated.

"Bandits and other gunmen operate in the area at any time, with utter impunity."

"Viral video of a family consisting of Ahmad Abubakar Zakka, his wife, and their baby daughter shows their abductors pointing AK-47 at their heads and threatening to shoot them. They were abducted on 5 October, by gunmen who invaded Alrahus Estate in Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State."

Recalling previous violent incursions in the area, the human rights watchdog recalled an August 19 attack where gunmen stormed the Kyauta area of Millennium City in broad daylight and abducted over a dozen residents.

The group noted that the chronic failure of security agencies to protect lives has forced vulnerable residents to set up local vigilante groups, while many others are fleeing the area entirely.

"No part of Millennium City Kaduna is safe now," the rights body added. "People live perpetually in fear always bracing up for the next attack or abduction — or both. Some residents have to suspend the education of their children."

Condemning the persistent failure of government authorities to guarantee safety in the state, Amnesty International emphasized: "Incessant killings, abductions and the stunning failure of the authorities to end them and bring suspected perpetrators to justice have been and continues to be a threat to the right to life in Kaduna State."

SaharaReporters had earlier reported terrorists kidnapped a man, his wife and their little daughter in Millennium City, Kaduna State, and are demanding N300 million as ransom for their release.

In a video seen by SaharaReporters, the abducted man, identified as Ahmad Abubakar Zakka, was seen appealing to members of the public for help while his wife sat beside him and their young daughter sat on his lap.

The disturbing footage showed the family being held captive by the armed assailants, with one of the terrorists pointing an AK-47 rifle at Zakka’s head while threatening to kill him.

Zakka was seen sitting on what appeared to be a fallen tree, with his daughter on his lap. He was holding one hand in a position that seemed to restrict his movement, and his right hand was swollen.

His wife, seated beside him, also appeared to be pleading for help as the family appealed for assistance to secure their release.
